September 29, 2008. Day 2 following completion of School of Power Evangelism.
I was running errands today and saw a lady walking down the sidewalk wearing hospital clothes. I drove slowly, assuming she was walking from her nearby home....maybe recovering from surgery. She continued up the hill. I turned my car around and pulled up, got out and walked up to her. I asked her if she was okay. She told me she was just going to get some clothes from the food bank/clothing center. It was 520pm. I asked where she lived. She said she slept in the alley in downtown Ballard last night. She told me her story- that she'd had an epileptic seizure because she ran out of her dilantin medication. She was hospitalized. They said she had scabies, so they took her clothes and gave her a treatment. She was discharged in hospital clothing and left on her own. I walked with her to the food bank and it was closed. I asked what she would do and she didn't know. My house is 3 blocks away, so I brought her home and got her some clothes. Got her some food, too, which had to be soft since she is missing almost all of her top teeth and her gums were very red. She told me she was very drunk the other night. (but she was completely sober with me). She told me that she died for 3 hours a few years ago and that she was above her body looking down on her dead self and saw the Dr say "she's gone"....the angel showed her the weeping family below and gave her a choice of staying or returning to life and she chose life. When she regained consciousness, she got up out of bed and scared the nurse half to death because she'd been pronounced dead 3 hours earlier. A pastor heard the story and had her tell it to his congregation at a church across from Woodland Park Zoo. We got her a bus ticket, information on the women's shelter in downtown Seattle and I asked if I could pray for her. She agreed and I asked if we could pray for healing from alcoholism and she said yes. I told her Jesus will give her the strength to get well and she needs to call out to Him when she's feeling tempted. I prayed a quick prayer of healing from alcoholism, epilepsy and for a restored relationship with her son in Greenwood and that she'd get her life together.
