POWER…….What does it mean to have power? I am studying Ephesians and Paul tells us in chapter 1 verse 18 that he prays that "the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints and his incomparably great power for us who believe." He goes on to tell us that is the same power God used to raise Christ from the dead. God has placed His mighty power in each of us.
It's hard to conceive, isn't it? It's not only curious, but to many, a little scary. In the book Something More, Catherine Marshall writes "part of our fear may also be that instinctively we know that the Spirit means power, and power makes all of us acutely uneasy. We're like people who have always lived with candles and campfires. We've heard rumors of electricity, but because we've never seen electric lights and are not certain we would know how to handle electric power, we'd rather make do with candles all our days."
We all are well accustomed to life with electricity and likely take it for granted. This power that Paul speaks of and that Jesus promised to all who believe, is alive and moving within each of us here and now. We've had it ever since we believed. After all, what can we expect but to find that He is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.

A great illustration of believers who warm the pews, participate in ministry, even show fruit but have not the POWER. And as I write this I include myself for the times I have done things in "my flesh".
