Gary - the Water Delivery Man
This morning Gary came to my office to deliver water. I'd met him once or twice before with a brief conversation. This time we were saying goodbye because we are discontinuing the service. I heard the Lord tell me to get him talking about Him as I saw Gary was searching for words. I knew his words pertained to how we might meet again. He lives too far away to attend our church and he's not really ever gone to church but his wife grew up in the church and attends at Easter and Christmas. His 5 year old daughter is interested in going, too. I asked him if he knew the story of the gospel and he said he knew very little. I shared John 3:16 in an elaborated version and asked what he thought about that. He didn't have a lot of thoughts about it and he's always thought when you die, you die. We talked about heaven and after-life and I told him about the Bible being God's Word and that indeed, there are many mysteries, but the more I've read, the more excited I am about heaven. I asked if I could pray for him and he said Yes. He asked me to pray for his wife and children. (At one point he told me that he would give a child a kidney, even if it wasn't his own child). I told him that is a gift that God has given him; compassion and caring. I prayed for he and his family's health and welfare, his driving safety-which he was concerned about, and that the Lord would stir up questions in his mind about who God is and that Gary would seek the Lord. My heart is warmed.
